I've received calls from this particular number, and I reckon it might not actually be associated with the DWP, so do exercise caution! On the other hand, calls made to this number seem legitimate since it's listed on the DWP's official site. Sharing your sort code and bank account number isn't overly risky-after all, you’d do that, along with a proper signature, if you were writing a cheque for someone. However, it’s paramount to never divulge any passwords, PINs, or card info over the phone. If you receive such a call, best to hang up immediately and ring back a verified number from a different device or ensure a solid hour passes before dialing again. This is just a precaution in case they’ve left the line open on the same phone. I used to be part of a Bank Fraud team and I cannot stress enough how crucial it is to be wary of unsolicited calls!
