It looks alright to ring this number since it’s listed on the official DWP site. Sharing your bank account and sort code isn’t as risky as it sounds; after all, you do that every time you hand over a cheque with your signature. Just make sure you NEVER give out your PIN, passwords, or card info. If they ask, simply hang up and ring back using a known number from another phone, or wait an hour before calling again so they can’t keep the line open.
