Got a voicemail from some recorded message on my answerphone. It’s been going on for a few weeks now, asking for someone I don't know to ring back with some reference number. The calls come every couple of days or so. I haven’t picked up and have blocked the number. Hopefully blocking it stops the calls. I thought HMRC were meant to be pretty strict and professional about chasing tax debts. Why would they let a third-party firm handle it like this? It’s like the whole 'ethical conduct' thing has been totally ignored!

I'm being hounded by debt collectors. It's relentless! I've received calls from two different numbers multiple times each day. They’re also bombarding me with texts, but none of them reveal who they are or what they're after. All I get is a reference number paired with a dodgy link that never seems to work. I received a message on my accountant's voicemail from this number. He didn't seem to know it was related to HM Revenue and advised me to tread cautiously. They claimed they needed to reach out to me due to some supposed debt, but to be honest, I'm not in debt at all!

From what ive seen in the comments, it seems about right - HMRC reckon i owe them 6 months worth of NI from when i was self-employed over 4 years ago. I definitely dont, and ive sorted it with HMRC twice already. Looks like they might have just passed me on to some dodgy debt collector. All they’ve got is my mobile and some initials, so i doubt they’re proper, otherwise they’d have sent a proper letter.

They told me to ring HMRC, but I said no, they work for HMRC so they should check with them first. This has nothing to do with me. I received a letter from them, and the very next day, I was bombarded with calls demanding that I pay the entire amount-£18,000-immediately, with no option to arrange for instalments. They insist on one lump sum, or there are threats of dire consequences... Honestly, they have no legitimate power to make such demands, swaggering about with what looks like a dubious court order. It's essential to challenge these tactics and hold your ground.
