Got a call claiming it was from o2, total scam, definitely not genuine!

Somebody rang me saying they were from Nationwide and even used my name, claiming there was a dodgy transaction earlier that day. They insisted I had to cancel the alleged payments and open a new account. I told them I’d rather get in touch with Nationwide myself. Then they said they’d ring back so I could check they were genuine. When they did call again, it was from another number linked to Nationwide, and they told me to Google the number. I said that’s not enough proof, and then they just told me to F**k off straight away!

Someone called claiming to be from O2 but it’s definitely a scam, I just ended the call right away. O2 would never ask you for your pin or security info on the phone. Plus, this bloke didn’t even bother to say my correct name... very fishy!

Got a call from 0345 809 0202 claiming to be from O2. They asked for my PIN that they supposedly sent to my mobile. Told me someone was trying to get an £80 plan for an iPad. When I started asking questions, they just hung up on me.

Got a call from someone claiming to be with O2’s fraud team, saying there was an order for a phone to be sent somewhere else. They had this really convincing spiel, then said they needed to check who I was. Next thing, they did a sim swap on my mobile and tricked me into reading out the pin text they’d just sent. Meanwhile, there was a separate attempt to break into my bank account, which relied on the sim swap to get the security code. Luckily, I caught it all just in time! Had to deal with no phone and banking access for a few days, but dodged what could’ve been a much worse mess.

Luckily, I’ve got all my money back from the bank after losing £22,000, but if anything seems suspicious, make sure you report it to your bank or the police immediately. That way, they can monitor your account closely. In my case, it was pretty serious - my phone got hacked, and I had no choice but to get a new number. Thankfully, it ended well and I didn’t end up out of pocket. JUST WATCH OUT FOR THIS NUMBER - these scammers are really skilled and know how to get into your phone and even your online banking. Since then, I’ve stopped using internet banking altogether.
