This is an ACTUAL number used by NatWest/RBS and the like, so don’t just block or ignore calls from it if you’re a customer. However, you can’t ever be 100% sure who’s on the other end. Scammers have copied pretty much ALL phone numbers from EVERY bank. If you get a call claiming to be from your bank, hang up, wait for the line to clear, then ring your bank using the number on your card. Don’t wait too long though, because it might really be important. Also, watch out for scammers posting fake reports about these numbers to trick folks into blocking legit calls.

Actually, banks do ring up their customers sometimes. I got a few legit calls at the beginning of lockdown, especially when some really big and odd transactions appeared on my account - all totally above board, by the way, it was from selling a house and some money from probate. The banks were right to double check with me. I was also spot on to hang up and then call them back from another phone and a separate number. See the post below for more info.

Totally sketchy. They’re quite sneaky when it comes to slipping past your guard. Their main goal is to trick you into handing over cash. Watch out for the fake stories they come up with to lure you into sending money from your bank.

Got a message saying it was from NatWest but it felt dodgy. I’m with EE, and even tho the sender claims NatWest, the actual number isn’t visible in the message details, so you can’t even reply with a proper rant. Since I don’t have an account there, I knew straight away it was a scam. I guess the “scattergun” approach just means they’re hoping someone who does bank with NatWest will take the bait.

We got a letter telling us to log into our business account and update some info. It seemed genuine, but when I checked, there wasn't any part of the account with the heading they mentioned. Then the letter says to call this number instead.

Got a call 3 times from a man named Alan who had a Scottish accent. He said someone in India had used our phone to download the mobile banking app from a different IP, which triggered an alert. I told him we dont use Natwest for banking and he just hung up on me.

Got a call from this number pretending to be Eon energy, saying I had to renew my contract. I told them to stop ringing me, but before that, they rang me like 12 times back to back. They've called me loads of times, so I've finally reported them to the Telephone Preference Service.

SCAM ALERT!!!! The caller wanted the name of someone I work with, said she was from NatWest and there’d been a dodgy transaction on his credit card. I wouldn’t give her any details and told her I wasn’t bothering to listen further, she’d need to speak to the actual account owner.

Got a call from someone asking for a different person than me. They claimed someone had spent 15k on my account at booking[###] and said they needed to verify my identity by going through some security questions. Got a call like this saying someone tried to access our business account from some foreign place. They asked if I was the one who usually approves payments. I told them straight up there’s no way I’m giving out any info and that we’d get in touch with our fraud team on our official number. Then they actually asked me what that number was! Got a call from a woman asking for the Accounts Payable manager. She went through the usual 'this call is recorded' line and then wanted my full name to put on their system. From what I can tell, this looks like a real Natwest Business banking phone number - I verified on their site. Had a chat with a bloke who didn’t try to trick me or ask anything suspicious, saying it was just an intro call. No issues at all and I did get the email they said they’d send from an official Natwest email. Pretty sure it was a legit call.

Got a call on the 18th of July 2018 around 3.22pm from someone claiming to be with NWest in Birmingham, UK. They claimed to be from NatWest, which was strange coz i was actually in a NatWest branch when they phoned. They couldnt provide any info about my account, saying it was due to not going through security checks at the start of the call. They started off by asking about local branch closures, then quickly shifted to ask if i wanted a cash machine installed in my pub. When i passed the phone to someone working in the branch i was in, he only said it was about branch closures but kept asking strange questions like where we deposited cash, which made me really uneasy.

Watch out for this number. I reckon Nat West might be working with BT (and probably loads of other companies too) to keep you on hold forever, dragging the call out till you give up and have to ring back again. Guess what that means? Big charges stacking up on yer phone bill. Honestly, I need to stop putting up with this awful bank that’s always spending tons on fancy renovations and claiming 'your call matters' while they just take your cash.
