Got a call from someone pretending to be Firstdirect. They asked me loads of personal security questions, but I didn’t give them a thing. As soon as I said no, they just ended the call straight away. Total scam, be careful!

Got a call from someone saying they were from First Direct, my bank I’ve had for ages. They tried to get me to answer security questions but wouldn’t explain what the call was about unless I did. When I asked why, they just repeated the same thing and then suddenly ended the call. I blocked the number straight away. Don’t fall for it.

Got a call from a lady who sounded Spanish, she said her name was Paula. Seemed alright but usually staff for FD are from the north or at least British. She asked for my postcode and DOB - started giving them both, felt fishy right from the start. Told her nicely I didn’t want to carry on the call. Seems like a scam to me. Foolish me for going along with it, but glad I managed to end the call.

This number has rung me loads of times every day but never left a voicemail. When I looked it up, it seemed connected to First Direct. I called First Direct on their official number and they told me they hadn’t contacted me in more than two weeks, and these calls were actually scams pretending to be from them. They mentioned they always leave a voicemail and now they don’t show their number when they call to stop this happening.

DO NOT TRUST THIS PERSON! THEY RIPPED ME OFF FOR MORE THAN £4,000 CLAIMING TO BE FROM FIRST DIRECT BANK. REALLY SLICK METHODS. SOUNDED LIKE A BRIT AND SPOKE REALLY SMOOTH. ALWAYS HAD AN ANSWER READY. EVEN GUIDED ME THROUGH TO ACTION FRAUD ONLINE AND HAD ME FILL OUT FORMS ON THE PHONE. THEN CALLED ME BACK FROM A NUMBER THAT LOOKED LIKE FIRST DIRECT CUSTOMER SERVICES. Absolutely disgusting! HE SAID HIS NAME WAS NIGEL FOSTER. IF YOU GET A CALL FROM HIM, IT'S A TOTAL SCAM!

First Direct here. Don’t listen to folks saying it’s a scam. Banks often use more than just their main helpline. This number is linked to their finance department and it’s completely legit. When people wrongly call it fraud, it stops others from returning calls and sorting out their business.

Someone claiming to be from First Direct’s fraud team rang me, and the fake manager got really upset when I said it sounded dodgy and that I was actually on the phone to the real First Direct on another line (which I was). He hung up pretty sharpish after that. Watch out for numbers that look super similar and just tell them you’ll call your bank direct instead of staying on the line. If it’s legit, the bank will patch you through to the right department. Doing this could protect you from losing money or having your identity stolen.
