Got a call today, afternoon, asking for my husband. He didn’t give out any details since we already had two calls earlier that morning from someone claiming to be his bank, both sounded like scams. The caller said they were from the DWP and the number showed as 03456 088601. They mentioned something about returned mail. Sounds like it might be the DWP calling. I phoned a number I got from a letter about my pension, and they told me they’ve been trying to reach me to confirm my address. Feels like different branches of the DWP don’t really talk to each other. Don’t give out any details if they ring you - just head over to gov.uk and find a proper number that’s official. Yeah, this number really belongs to the DWP. I tried ringing it back but the call got blocked. So, I phoned the DWP on a different number and they told me they'd been trying to reach me because they’d sent some letters to an old address of mine and they came back marked as “no longer at this address”.

Just got a call from this number claiming to be from the DWP. They had my name and said some mail was returned, then asked for my address. When I asked what address they had on file, they refused to say, citing security. I asked what the letter was about since I usually get post from them, but again no info. THIS CALL IS 100% REAL. THE PEOPLE RINGING ARE FROM THE DWP. THEY HAVE A RULE THAT THEY NEED TO SPEAK TO THE ACCOUNT HOLDER FOR THREE DAYS STRAIGHT. IF YOU DON'T VERIFY YOUR ADDRESS, YOUR STATE PENSION PAYMENTS WILL BE PAUSED UNTIL YOU CONTACT THEM TO CONFIRM IT. THE POST GOT SENT TO THE WRONG ADDRESS AND WAS RETURNED, WHICH IS WHY THEY’RE CALLING. THIS IS NOT A SCAM OR ANYTHING FAKE. IF YOU THINK IT’S A SCAM, YOU’LL PROBABLY REALISE YOU WERE WRONG WHEN YOU SEE NO MONEY BEING PAID INTO YOUR ACCOUNT.

This is definitely the real DWP, I know someone who works there making these calls. They do it to check customers’ details because a lot of mail bounces back for different reasons - people moving house, postcode errors, or Royal Mail strikes where temp staff unfamiliar with the area deliver wrongly. They need to safeguard pensions from any misuse if letters with sensitive info go to wrong addresses. If there’s a delivery issue, pensions sometimes get paused which means they call to get the correct details updated.

I received a call from 03456088601, saying they were from the DWP. Actually, I had applied online for my state pension just a few days before, so it wasn’t too strange. They asked me for my place of birth (which I hadn’t included on the form), but they already had loads of other details that only came from my application. Some guy phoned me saying he was from the DWP and that it was about my elderly dad. Even though I had blocked this number, somehow it still made it to my voicemail. A nice lady named Rebecca, with a very pleasant voice, told me to ring a new DWP number.
