Totally a scam, I first got an email telling me they would phone me soon. Banks never ask for personal info like that. The lady’s name was Sangita MAJUMDAR and the email looked dodgy: [email protected] When she did call me on the supposed day, I told her straight away I knew it was a scam, and she just said “Ok, sorry” then hung up! Part of the email mentioned something like: My name is Sunny, and I’m a Business Specialist for HSBC Business Banking. Scam alert! Anyone saying this is a legit HSBC call is either a bot or part of the scam team. When they called the first time, Google Call Screening picked it up and they just hung right up. The next time I picked up myself, they tried to fish for my account details. I wasn’t having any of it and gave them a piece of my mind.

I received a rather peculiar call from a woman claiming to be representing the HSBC branch in Aberdeen. She insisted she needed some personal details to elaborate on the nature of her call. Her Scottish accent was quite evident. However, when I expressed my concerns regarding her legitimacy, she identified herself as Katrina Sch.... but her demeanour shifted noticeably, tinged with irritation. I took the prudent step of reaching out to HSBC directly and, to my dismay, discovered that she isn't affiliated with them at all. Furthermore, the number she rang from is definitely not part of HSBC's network. Clearly, a scam at play here! I'm relieved I didn't divulge any of my personal information.

You should never block legit bank phone numbers, that’s exactly what fraudsters want you to do. Check the post a few below, from 08/03/23. It explains clearly what to do if your bank rings you. Banks often use numbers that only make outgoing calls and may not leave voicemail because of the sensitive info. Loads of people on here are saying this is definitely HSBC, and a bunch more across the 4 pages suggest ringing the number on your bank card to make sure. Don’t just hang up on calls claiming to be from your bank. Always double-check by calling the number on your actual card. Some of the supposed scam warnings here seem a bit dodgy if you ask me. These scammers want you to brush off or block legit bank calls for pretty clear reasons.

Got a call from 03456032821, a woman said she was from HSBC. She first rang the landline but I didn’t answer and blocked her. Then she tried my mobile but I missed it. When I phoned the number back, there was a recorded message saying don’t ring again, allegedly from HSBC. Should I be worried and think about switching banks? Got a missed call from this number then an automated voicemail saying it was HSBC and that I didn’t need to do anything or call back. Since it said it was from a bank and I was a bit curious, I tried ringing back but no luck getting through. Same deal with texts, they just don’t go through. If this was legit HSBC and I can’t get hold of them, why bother calling me at all? Makes no sense to me.

This number's been calling me quite a bit these past few weeks. I usually just let it keep ringing, it goes on for about 3 rings then stops. If it was a bank, they wouldn’t just ring like that and certainly would leave a voicemail. Definitely don’t share any personal details. I'm quite concerned about this number so I’m going to block it now x

This number 0345 6032821 called us at least three times and we thought it was dodgy after reading some comments here. But then we went to our local branch and a lady there said she had been trying to get hold of us. When we mentioned we were checking on that number, she confirmed it was her calling us using that number. So, I’d say this number is legit and not a scam at all.

HSBC. I wasn’t really expecting any calls but I had a case open from a few months back. After seeing what others said here, I picked up when they rang again a short while later. The woman said she was calling from my local branch. She asked for my name just to make sure she was talking to the right person and didn’t ask for any personal info. The purpose of the call was simply to invite me into the branch to verify my identity so they could continue with the case already in progress. Never once was I asked to share any details over the phone. Definitely a legit call.

Got a call from this number today around 2:33pm. The caller ID said 0345 something, but I didn’t answer cos I don’t like marketing calls. The phone went to answer machine and then the caller hung up without leaving a message. I bank with HSBC and since my local branch is closing soon, from what I’ve read about this number it looks like it might be a scam.

Got a call from this number where the person said she was Hannah from HSBC's Cardiff Queen Street branch. She mentioned it wasn't anything urgent, but wanted to ask some security questions first. Before she could start, I asked if I could ring them back instead, and she said if I felt safer they could send the details by email. It felt a bit off, but they weren't desperate to keep me chatting, so I'm not sure if it's legit or a scam.

Watch out! This is actually a real HSBC number but scammers have faked phone numbers from nearly every bank and building society out there. If you get a random call that seems to be from your bank, hang up first and then call them back using the number on the back of your card. Scammers sometimes put up fake scam alerts to trick people into blocking legit numbers, and they also post fake “safe” reports to lower your guard. Best bet is to use your common sense and have a read through all the comments across all 4 pages here.

Got a call from 03456032821 at 9:48 this morning. The guy said he was with HSBC in Taunton and asked if I’d allow him to access my bank account to switch it over to their Taunton Branch (maybe because some branches are shutting down soon). I didn’t trust it, said no thanks and hung up. Just a heads up, they sound pretty genuine, so be cautious if you get the same call.

I got a call claiming to be from HSBC. They were asking for someone named Jane Anderson, which isn’t my name or anything close to it. They told me to ring back on 03455840309. The line sounded really dodgy and the whole thing felt off, definitely not legit.

Somebody called saying they were Angela from my local HSBC bank - she wanted me to verify my year of birth (she already knew my date and month). When I didn't give it, she warned me my accounts would get frozen. I ended the call but she rang again, asking how she could convince me she was really from the branch. I told her she was trying to scam me and I’d heard this kind of thing before. Then she told me to pop into the branch to "fix it". I hung up again.

Someone rang claiming to be from HSBC and asked for me by my name. They mentioned the first part of my postcode and then wanted the last bits. After that, they requested my date of birth, but I told them I wasn’t comfortable sharing more details. I later contacted HSBC through their online banking service with the number, and they confirmed it wasn’t them calling.

I checked out what other people said and then rang HSBC using the number they give for phone banking. HSBC told me nobody from their bank is supposed to be calling me. I don’t know for sure if it’s a scam, but it seems strange that if it was a genuine call from their marketing team, HSBC wouldn’t have any record of trying to reach me or what it was about.

This really is the HSBC 'Know Your Customer' team (they might call themselves something different). It’s legit, they won’t leave a voicemail, but usually they’re either checking if you’re interested in extra services, or following up on any recent changes you've made to your business or charity bank account. Sometimes they just want to chat or confirm things are all sorted.
