Greetings! I recently received a correspondence from HMRC mentioning the number 03453021429. I ended up providing my banking information, but now I’m starting to feel uneasy about whether this is legitimate or a scam. Could anyone shed light on this situation? What steps should I take next? Much appreciated!

Earlier today, I was taken aback by a correspondence that appeared to be from HMRC, claiming I had overpaid on my tax credits. To be honest, this isn’t the first time I’ve encountered such a letter from them. Naturally, I thought it prudent to ring the payments helpline, and to my dismay, I found it identical to one that others have flagged as a potential scam. I can't stress enough how important it is to exercise caution - always verify before dialling any number, just to ensure you’re not falling prey to anything dodgy.

Reading these comments is confusing, loads of people say they got calls from HMRC asking for their NI number. Thing is, I don’t claim any benefits or tax credits like some others mentioned in their posts.

I got a call from this number, and three different people picked up - Bilal, Delan, and Ade - all claiming to be from HMRC. Definitely looks like a scam, so watch out!

I got a letter yesterday claiming that I owe £166.78. But hang on-HMRC isn't even running operations in Glasgow! Additionally, there's a shady letter from some company called LCS out of Leeds, insisting I owe £1885.18 for an overpayment! Check out their site: www.lcsdr.com. Seems a bit dodgy to me!

I've just come across a letter from HMRC claiming that I owe them a whopping £10,000. It looks a bit dodgy since it's not on any official letterhead. Could this possibly be a scam?

I've just received a rather concerning letter from HMRC based out of Glasgow, informing me that I supposedly owe more than £500 in working tax credits, and that they've ceased my payments. Honestly, I can't shake the feeling that this might be some sort of scam.
