Got a call from someone claiming to be NatWest Fraud Prevention. They actually knew my memorable word and even the name of my local branch. Told me there were suspicious transactions on my account and said they needed to switch my account number. The call lasted quite a while and sounded super legit. They asked me to move my money through my app to the new account. I ended the call and decided to look it up here afterwards.

I was so terrified, honestly thought I was about to be taken in by the cops, and with a newborn at home it really shook me up.

Dodgy! Just received a call claiming to be from HM Revenue and Customs, threatening to have me arrested and dragged to court over some supposed tax arrears totalling a whopping £950 for the last few years. The moment I began to probe them for more details, the call suddenly cut off. I rang HMRC to verify and, lo and behold, I have no outstanding balance whatsoever. Avoid answering if you see this number!

Got a robo call warning me I'd get arrested if I didn't hit 1. So I pressed it, and then some woman with a strong Asian accent came on, but the connection was so bad I could barely make her out - sounded like she was somewhere noisy, maybe a pub? She kept asking for my postcode and other stuff. When I wouldn't give it, she threatened I'd end up in jail for ages. I just told her I'd ring up HMRC myself. Definitely a scam, no doubt about it. Blocked her number straight away.

My partner just went through exactly the same situation and he’s been diagnosed with Vascular Dementia. I had to soothe him and explain that it was only a scam call, nothing to stress over. It’s unbelievable how these awful people can get away with this. Made my husband really upset and I’m so angry about it. They seriously need to be put to an end.

I’ve had this bloke call me on both my mobile and landline, and he actually knows my full name. Just now, he called for the third time claiming to be from Natwest’s fraud team. He said someone had linked a mobile app to my account and was making dodgy payments. He told me he blocked the suspicious transaction and then wanted to run me through some security checks. I ended the call and rang my bank directly - no fraud flagged at all. When he called again, I told him it’s a scam and he just hung up. I’m now trying to report it on Action Fraud.

I got a call from some guy claiming there was suspicious activity on my Natwest account. He said he’d stopped the payment, but then started asking for my personal info to “verify” things. I ended up just ending the call and looked up the number online. Turns out loads of others have had the same thing. If it happens to you, definitely get in touch with your bank and let them know.
