I actually kept the call going this time when I answered. The person said they were from EDF and mentioned they were recording the conversation. They wanted to talk to the contract holder. Someone phoned me saying they were ringing “on behalf of EDF”, asking if I had an account with them. I said, if you’re with EDF, why don’t you already know I’m a customer? They said EDF doesn’t give them that info and they need to check the national grid’s database. So I said, “Wait, so my own company can’t confirm if I’m a customer or not, so how did you find me to call in the first place?” Anyway, after a long chat with this sales rep, I found out he isn’t actually from EDF, just pretending. Very misleading and false claim. Definitely stay clear!

That was EDF Energy calling, probably just one of their marketing calls. I honestly dont get where all these scam warnings and HMRC alerts come from, seems like either people are guessing or maybe they're fake. I've never heard of HMRC scammers being able to clone phone numbers anyway.

If anyone thinks this is a legit call from EDF, I actually rang EDF myself (using their official number) and they told me it definitely isn’t them. Apparently, they stopped doing sales calls years ago. They reckon it could be a broker or someone just pretending to be them to gain trust. Either way, I’ve sorted getting those numbers blocked on our company’s phone system now.

They said they were from EDF Energy, but I could hardly make out what they were saying cos there was loads of noise and laughing in the background. They wanted to speak to the MD by name but wouldn’t explain what the call was about. I’ve blocked the number now. In the past three weeks, this number has bombarded me with over fifteen calls. On one occasion, I actually picked up, only to be greeted by an eerie silence on the other end. I told the guy we’d already fixed ours for another couple of years, yet he kept insisting on speaking to someone about it. When I asked why, he said it was to get our okay to call us again when the contract’s nearly up. I asked why bother asking for permission now when you just cold called us anyway? He didn’t have a reply for that! If they ring again, I’m definitely reporting them to the TPS and OFCOM for pestering us.
