The really creepy part is the text had my real account number in it. How on earth did they get hold of that? Feels like a data leak SSE isn’t telling us about.

I reckon this is one of those SSE scams. I don't have any debt with them and I've actually closed my account ages ago. Feels really dodgy. I get panic attacks quite often, so getting a message like that is just shocking, nasty and downright mean.

FRAUD ALERT. It looks like someone at SSE might be sharing personal info with scammers to make it seem genuine. I used to have an SSE account but I was all clear after closing it. They sent me a text saying URGENT. If you need to contact SSE, always use the number listed on their official website.

A huge sum was taken from my bank by a direct debit under the name "SSE". I've just changed address and actually have SSE as my provider, so I called them as the amount was definitely wrong. They told me they haven't had any payments from me and my account is clear, so I don’t owe anything. I contacted my bank, they refunded the cash and stopped the direct debit. But now I keep getting texts from "SSE" asking me to call some number because I supposedly haven’t settled an energy bill.

Got a text saying it was 'URGENT' and asked me to ring this number (they left out the zero, mind). I first got in touch with SSE using a number I found straight on their official site. Their Energy Supply folks said there’s nothing on file for us, and the boiler cover team said our account was fine. Tried calling the original number after, and the hold music and voices sounded exactly the same, so this feels pretty clever.

Got a text supposedly from SSE SOUTHERN ELECTRIC saying they hadn’t got my payment for my energy bill. It asked me to ring 03450783219 for payment info and gave account number 330622941. Thing is, I’ve never had an SSE account and they even spelled “received” wrong, which seems odd for a big company like that. Definitely looks fishy to me.

Got a text from 'Reminders' saying SSE Scottish Hydro hadn't got my energy bill payment. It mentioned calling 03450783219 with my account number for payment info and all that. I almost felt sorry for them as I just updated my info, so maybe the payment hadn’t gone through. Luckily, I looked at my bank statement and checked SSE’s official site before ringing the number - turns out it was a total scam.
