Got a call from someone saying they were from OpenTable, asking for a deposit for a restaurant booking I’d already sorted. They seemed to know quite a bit about the reservation and said if I didn’t pay right away, they’d cancel it straight away. Bit suspicious if you ask me.

This caller, who said their name and spoke with an Italian accent, told me they were calling from NatWest about me not replying to a letter (which was actually an email they'd sent earlier). When I asked her to give me my address instead, so I could check it, she refused. She even gave me the wrong postcode, probably trying to trick me into correcting it. Definitely feels like a scam to me.

I got a call from a bloke claiming to be with eon next, saying I had to renew my contract. I asked a few questions and he started being really aggressive, even swearing at me! Then he went on to say he'd cut off my electricity if I didn't comply. I checked with the actual eon next later and they confirmed it was a scam.

Got a call on my landline from this number asking for me by name, saying they were from Eon. The person claimed they’d sent three letters about my account but hadn’t had any response. I told them I hadn’t seen any letters and they double-checked my address to make sure their records were correct. Then they said I’d missed paying the last three months, which apparently could be a glitch since they've been contacting thousands of customers about this problem. But I received my Eon statement by email just the day before, so I knew this was rubbish. When I asked for the payment amounts, the guy gave me the wrong numbers. I called him out as a scammer straight away. He then got aggressive and even said he knew where I lived. I hung up, but he kept calling back, probably to keep up the threats. Either Eon’s customer service is shockingly poor or this number’s been spoofed - maybe they’ve had a data breach they don’t know about or haven’t told anyone about yet.

Got a call claiming to be from the Electricity and Gas Board, said they were based somewhere in London. I asked the bloke what he could see outside his window and about the weather, but he couldn't answer at all, which was odd. He got really nasty when I refused to give my mobile number or any bill details. If you’ve got the patience, just keep them chatting with nonsense. Once I told them I was Barack Obama, and kept the caller and his supervisor hanging around for half an hour. That’s half an hour wasted, and maybe it stops them targeting someone vulnerable like an older relative.

Got a call claiming to be from an energy provider - no specific name given - saying they were coming to fit a smart meter. I explained we've already been informed that because we live out in the sticks and have rubbish signal, we can't get one. The bloke then started calling me a liar and raised his voice at me. I wasn't having any of it, told him off and made it clear not to ring this number again. I've since blocked him.

He rang up saying he was from Eon and wanted to talk to the manager. I told him that I was the manager, but he didn’t believe me unless I gave him my phone number. I refused, and after that he kept ringing our restaurant landline non-stop on both phones. He was even calling a different number, 0345 055 0065 too. If anyone spots this number, just block it!

Absolutely shocking experience. Got a call asking for business electricity meter readings for a firm that doesn’t even deal with us. The bloke was yelling non stop, shouting at me like it was my fault. He’d mash the phone’s keypad whenever I didn’t give the answers he wanted. After I ended the call, he rang me four more times all within just an hour. It’s like he calls back just to shout if you dare hang up on him. Proper harassment, honestly.

Got a call earlier saying my landlord sold my business and starting 16th Dec, some Joanna Smith switched all accounts to Opus Energy. The bloke claimed he was calling from E.ON. I told him it was a scam and said I'd ring E.ON myself. I did, and they confirmed everything was fine, no cancellations. The scammer also said they’d send my recorded call to Opus Energy. I just told them to go ahead. They were pretty slick but I wasn’t falling for it.

I got a dodgy call from some outfit claiming to be E-ON, but it wasn’t them at all. I rang the real E-ON using the number from their official letter and they told me this number isn’t in their records and said it’s a scam. The weird bit was that the dodgy number kept buzzing me at the very same time I was chatting with E-ON!

I got a call from a "foreign number" saying they were from EON and wanted to renew my contract. Problem is, I haven't been with EON for nearly a year, so I knew right away it was a scam. I told them this and ended the call. Not long after, maybe 5 minutes, I got a really rude call from that same number. When I rang the number back to complain, it sounded like it was EON. I ended up having to spend a good chunk of my day on the phone with the actual EON, and we figured out that it wasn’t them calling me back, even though the scammers had cloned their number. This really needs sorting out so others don’t have to put up with this kind of abuse like I did today.

Since January 2019, this number has kept ringing me up nearly every week, even though I told them I’d switched from their service and asked nicely to be taken off their calling list. Now I’m being told they’re going to send me documents because, believe it or not, I supposedly requested them! I ended the call straight away. The bloke on the phone, who said his name was Richard, didn’t seem to care that I was busy cooking dinner at the time - so frustrating!

I’m absolutely certain these individuals are con artists masquerading under a legitimate company’s name. I received two calls today inquiring about someone who doesn’t even work here. When I probed about their origins, they claimed the government had sent them an email concerning a new business registration. However, when I pressed for more specifics, the tone suddenly changed-another person took over the call and was incredibly rude. They refused to share a contact name or phone number, which immediately set off alarm bells for me. You’d think an organisation supposedly working with the government would be forthcoming with information, especially on something so significant. The second person got exceedingly irate when I sought additional details, telling me I was wasting his time-ironically, he was the one calling me with these bizarre inquiries!

I'm really surprised by how much I got charged, especially since most of the time I was just stuck waiting on hold. Out of the 44 minutes billed, I only actually spoke for about 6. Ended up paying £7.66, which works out to like £1.28 a minute! Ridiculous.
