I called this number after customer service gave it to me to help my folks out with some stuff. It's linked to First Direct bank, and they were quite helpful sorting things for my parents. The only downside is that it's an 0345, so the call cost a fair bit, but in the end, it worked out alright.

Earlier today, Thurs 7th Oct, we got a call from 0345 051 1378. The caller said his name was James McCarthy and claimed he was calling from First Direct. He told us there were some strange transactions on our account and said someone from the bank’s fraud team would call back later that day. Later on the same afternoon, we received a follow-up call from 020 3695 1706. It was from the same bunch of scammers, pretending again to be from First Direct Fraud Control, just as ‘James McCarthy’ had warned us. Both calls are definitely vishing attempts.

This afternoon, on Thursday, 7th October, we received a dubious call from 0345 051 1378. The caller introduced himself as 'James McCarthy,’ asserting that he was from First Direct bank. He sensationally alleged that there had been some suspicious transactions on our account and mentioned that someone from their fraud department would be in touch with us later on. However, a quick call to First Direct confirmed our suspicions. They stated that they hadn't made any calls to us today, and thankfully, our account was clear of any unauthorised activity. Take heed of this con!
