Received a call notifying me that my washing machine warranty was nearing its expiration, and they requested my payment details to keep it active. Strangely, they had my name and address on hand. Seems highly suspect to me-definitely sounds like a scam!

It was United Utilities, and if you ring them back, an automated message says, "hello, you’ve reached United Utilities." If you stay on the line, someone eventually comes on and talks to you about an unpaid bill, which was actually true for me. I told them I was a bit suspicious of calls from call centres, so I wanted to just pay online, and they said that was okay. They asked if I was struggling financially and seemed quite genuine.

Looks like some folks might be mixing this up with other similar numbers. This one called from United Utilities about making a payment. It did sound a bit dodgy at first, but I’d just paid recently and she could check that on the system. Basically, it was just a nudge to stay up to date with the water bill.

0345 0260817 rang me, but I didn’t pick up as I reckon it’s a scam. I had texts from other numbers linked to Cromer and Birmingham before, it was some billing scam and they managed to swipe £50 from my pay as you go SIM without me realising. Seems dodgy to me.

Answered the phone and the moment I said something, the call just dropped - could it be some kind of robocall?

It was an Asian lady with quite poor English who claimed she was from Virgin Media. She said my router was causing problems with my gadgets and wasn’t functioning right. I played along to see what she’d say next, but when she figured out I wasn’t fooled, she just ended the call.

I've gotten several calls from unknown numbers lately, and whenever I answer, there's silence for a bit then the call just drops. Once, I actually heard some breathing and then a 'hello' before they hung up. It's all quite strange, and these calls come from various different numbers.

Got two missed calls from this number on back-to-back days at nearly the same time. First call left a message saying £600 had been sent from my account to some overseas bank and told me to press 1 to talk to my bank... obviously I ignored it! The call today didn’t leave a message at all. Just a heads up: this is definitely a scam!

Got an automated call claiming to be United Utilities about payments, telling me to press 1. I rang the official number from their website to double-check and they said the number didn't match anything on their end and that they haven't sent any automated calls since November 19th. I got a call from this number earlier today. It was some robotic voice sayin it was from HMRE. They claimed I was involved in fraud and told me to press 1. If I didn't, they said they'd send a warrant to arrest me!
