I keep getting this automated text few times every week when I’m at work. It says it’s from Scottish Power and wants me to get in touch with them, but I’ve never had any account with Scottish Power so there’s no point in calling. To me, it feels like a scam and just pure hassle.

Just like a few others, I got a call this morning from 0344 543 9007 saying I owed £466 on an account I closed back in August 2021. I never got any earlier notices about this supposed debt. At first, I was really suspicious if the call was legit, but after checking, it seemed to be real, even though they kept asking for loads of details they should already know. The person on the phone said that according to Scottish Power, I never gave them my final meter readings when I moved out from my old place.

Some guy claimed he was from Scottish Power and insisted we owed £51 and had to pay immediately. Lucky for me, I know a fair bit about consumer rights and challenged him on it. He couldn’t give me any account details, meter readings, or dates of supposed emails or calls. I really got him when I pointed out his phone number was listed on this site as a scam. He kept pushing, but I just ended the call in the end.

This wasnt the regular Scottish Power number I got - seemed to be from their retention dept (the folks who try to stop you leaving by offering better deals and all that). Ive already switched my electricity over (as photovoltaic setups need different stuff) but kept my gas with them. Then I got a call from someone called "George" who sounded a bit like he might be from some young trainees program or something! I double checked on their official number and yep, it was a legit call after all.

Scottish Power seem to hand over info about “debts” to these so called “Collection Agencies”. In my situation, the debt was actually cancelled by the Ombudsman, and Scottish Power even paid me back over £400, plus £60 for “compensation”, and told me to erase all my accounts! Despite this, I still got threats from TWO different debt collectors! If you’ve got a Call Blocker, just keep blocking their numbers. If you don’t have one, seriously, get one ASAP on eBay!!

Somebody called Hannah, said she's from Scottish Power. She wanted me to answer some security stuff, said she couldn't access my account otherwise. Reckons it was about an account I used to have. I did have an account ages ago, they billed me for gas, but turned out they’d mixed up, transferred another person's account and gas supply by mistake [which understandably annoyed her]. cant get through to scottish power about assigning my tenancy during a mutual exchange. miss chloe howells is transferring all rights and benefits of the tenancy at 13 north row, tadley, r1926 sab, to mr neil a at 42 martin close, hampshire, r921 5jz. i use eon for electric key and gas card, never scottish power. miss chloe howells cant pay the £421.40 outstanding with scottish power or the £200.00 with nopower. i have hearing loss and can’t answer mobile calls, skype or helpline, no text talk available either. regards, neil samaraweera
