I answered on the second or third ring, and a voice with a distinct UK accent prompted me to “press 1” if I was the individual she mentioned. Naturally, being that person, I pressed “1” and was greeted by about a minute of vague, recorded music while I awaited a response.

However, all I got in return was the continued music, which raised my suspicions of it being a potential scam. I decided to hang up, concerned that I might have unwittingly dialled a number that charged extortionate fees, like £5 a minute or something similarly outrageous.

If you receive a call of this nature, it might be wise to refrain from answering. Initially, I thought it could be one of the financial entities I interact with regularly.
