Got a call from 0161 850 5157, some recorded voice claiming to be from a Government agency saying I owe them money. It said this would be the final call. I was told to press 1 to speak to my controller, so I did, but absolutely nothing happened after that. Quite fishy if you ask me.

They called me twice over the last couple of days, both times about half past twelve. Had a quick look up of the number here and after seeing what everyone said, decided to block it straight away.

I noticed this number showed up on my BT Call Protect as a blocked caller, but when I dialled 1471 to check, the last number listed was different. So it looks like BT’s already flagged this one as spam or something annoying. I reckon whoever’s behind it will catch on and probably start using a new number before long.

Honestly, what works best with these kind of calls is to pick up as usual but then just leave the phone beside you and don’t say a word. Let them chat away on their own. Once they’ve given up and ended the call, keep your line active for like 10 minutes after. This way, they won’t be able to tie up their own line. It’s trick that seems to spread fast, and soon enough the calls start slowing right down.

This number has rung me a couple of times, but luckily my call blocker always picks it up before I do. If you're getting constant cold calls from the same place, make sure you report it to the ICO. They actually take action against these annoying telemarketers, and some companies have even been slapped with big fines - one got hit with £100,000 after making more than 75,000 unwanted calls! Definitely worth heading over to the ICO site and putting in a complaint.
