Lowell Collections called me and I was told not to confirm any debts, especially if they've been around for over 6 years, because then they can't legally make you pay anymore. Keep getting calls over and over again with the same message telling me to call this number back. From what others say, it’s clearly some kinda scam. Anyone know where we should report these?

I keep getting loads of calls from this number but they’re asking for someone else. The messages are starting to sound quite scary, saying it’s about some legal debt thing. I haven’t picked up or called back at all. Every time I block the number, they somehow still manage to ring me again. Pretty sure it’s a scam since they keep mentioning the wrong name.

This number rings me up daily with the exact same voicemail. They’re asking for some bloke named Christopher Cochrane. I haven’t got the foggiest who that is... The number they’re dialing has never been in use by me; it was part of a TV, internet and phone bundle I got. Honestly, I don’t even recognise the number. Watch out for this one, I reckon.

This number rings my phone about once a month, with a voicemail for someone named Lawrence Dunn. They tell him to call back urgently on 0333 556 5520 and mention a ref no 402368468. I reckon it’s a trick to get you to ring back, only to find out that’s not their number and maybe keep you talking just to rack up call costs.

This is a proper company ringing. It's Lowell, the debt firm. They’re registered with Companies House and have a website. I phoned them (pressed option one for letters sent to the wrong name), gave them the number they kept calling (my landline). They didn’t ask for anything else. They took my number off their client records. Really polite, super helpful and quite apologetic too. They said their outgoing call number isn’t the same as the one they mention in their voicemail because they use different departments.

Every now and then, about once every month or so, my landline here in Glasgow rings and then I get this strange robotic voicemail looking for someone called Amanda Palmer, with a reference number 341307254. I've absolutely no idea who she is. Smells like a scam to me.

Got a voicemail that began with some menu choices, then said it was for a woman I've never met. They asked to ring them back and gave a ref number. I only got this number last week and have only shared it with a few people, so not sure if it’s for the previous owner or just one of those annoying telemarketer or scam calls. Lowell debt collectors keep ringing me every day, so I blocked their number but still got voicemails using my name and some reference number. I finally gave up and rang them back. They asked for my name and mentioned an address I don’t even recognise. When I said I didn’t know the place and my birthdate was wrong too, they said they’d take me off their list immediately since they had the wrong person. Fingers crossed they stop calling now.

I just got a voicemail on my phone from an automated message. It actually said my name, which I thought was a bit odd, then told me to press 0 or if not, press 2. It also gave me a number to call back along with a reference number. Before I even considered ringing back, I looked up the number. As I suspected, it was a scam. Watch out because I've had people try and scam me with those fake romance schemes before. They’ll probably just sell your info to another scammer. Honestly, it’s like I’m too popular for my own good!

Maybe it’s for my ex who I broke up with like 8 years ago, but debts can only be chased for 6 years right? I've been receiving messages on my husband's mobile over the last five days, stating that he has an outstanding debt. When I called to stop the incessant messages, the name they mentioned was a woman's name, which is quite puzzling. My husband, being elderly and somewhat hard of hearing, struggles with this sort of thing, especially since he only has an old-school phone and isn't able to block the number. It's incredibly frustrating, as the same name has previously linked my husband's number to someone else's debts, leading to harassment for the same person once more.
