The call I got on my landline actually came from 03333440000, not the number people keep mentioning here. Loads of comments on this thread seem to be from folks who just ignored the call and jumped straight to thinking it was a scam. There are around six of these text-to-speech relay services working in the UK, using different numbers. A lot of them get bad reviews, but honestly, hardly anyone has actually answered the phone to see what’s going on. Someone even put up a detailed explanation here about a year ago explaining the whole setup.

If you use BT, try ringing 1572 to block a number, especially if it’s been called over 30,000 times. For those pesky scam emails, don’t open them! Instead, forward them to Action Fraud. It won’t totally get rid of them, but it does cut down on a lot of the rubbish you get.

Got a call from an automated voice saying I had a voicemail from a mobile number and to press 1,2,3 or 4 to listen or delete messages. I didn’t press anything and just ended the call. This doesn’t seem like a wrong number mix-up because usually on a landline you just get told the number and message straight away without having to press any buttons. Be careful with these calls.

Who was that? Beats me! Unknown number, as usual I let it go to voicemail. No message left, so straight to the blocked list. My advice? NEVER call back a number you don’t recognise - it could be a costly scam like those premium rate calls (definitely worth checking out!). If it’s something important, they’ll ring again or leave a message. No message means it probably wasn’t that urgent anyway; plus, you haven’t lost a penny! The voice was kinda odd though, not like my usual landline answerphone. The screen showed “leaving message”, so I didn’t press anything. After they hung up, I checked the message, and the same weird voice said a sequence of 4 numbers, which made me decide to block the number. You’ll figure out how to handle those audio-to-text landline relay numbers. I reckon there’s about six of these kind of numbers going around from what I’ve seen.

This number has rung me several times today, once at 7 am and then again around 11.25 am. Since my mum suffers from dementia, I reckon it might be someone who cares for her. It's really frustrating. Does anyone know how to make it stop?
