The caller requested to speak with me and then surprisingly inquired if a house was still on the market, mentioning my parents' address. Initially, I assumed they must have dialled the wrong number, and just as I was about to clarify that it was likely my mum they were after, they suddenly hung up. Naturally, I decided to ring them back - I was keen to find out how they had acquired my number. When I managed to speak to a woman and recounted the previous conversation, I informed her that my mum had passed away. She replied, rather oddly, that my mum must have listed my number as a secondary contact. I found this hard to believe, as I hadn’t lived at home for over a year and my mum would have certainly given them my dad's number instead. The call centre staff couldn’t provide a clear explanation for how my information had come into their possession. According to the second lady I spoke to, it had something to do with an online property valuation.
