Somebody rang me saying they were from Vodafone.

Utterly alarming, I received a call purporting to be from Lloyds' fraud team, insisting they needed to verify a direct debit setup. Naturally, I expressed my scepticism and stated that I would reach out to Lloyds directly, as I find unsolicited calls from individuals claiming to represent my bank rather dubious. Upon contacting Lloyds, I discovered that their fraud team had no record of any such call being made to me. Clearly, it's a scam designed to intimidate and extract sensitive information from unsuspecting individuals. Stay vigilant folks; they're on the lookout for details about our banking affiliations to trick us. Let’s just say, they’re in for a rather unpleasant experience down the line!

Some cunning trickster had the audacity to claim they were from Tesco.

I got a call from this number claiming to be Tesco Bank. They said a payment was declined today and my card had been blocked because of it. They actually told me the first eight digits of my Tesco credit card, then asked me to read out the rest. That set off warning bells straight away, so I refused. I told them I'd call back the next day on the number they used to ring me. Since they called my mobile, I rang Tesco on the number printed on the back of my card from my landline instead, and explained about the call. Tesco confirmed it was a scam, so seriously, never give your card details over the phone to anyone who rings you out of the blue!

Some bloke rang me claiming to be from Barclays fraud dept, saying there was suspicious activity on my account. I told him to prove who he was with some security questions, but he barely knew any of my details. Then he asked for my date of birth, which I refused to give, and when I asked him to confirm my full name he threatened to lock my account. I just told him to do it anyway since I don’t even bank with Barclays. Sorted!

Some bloke called me claiming he was Mark from Tesco credit cards, telling me there were dodgy charges on my account. He wanted my date of birth and if I’d used the Tesco site or app recently. Kept asking for other personal details but I got a weird feeling about it. Seemed believable at first, but when I asked him to show me my recent transactions to prove he was legit, he just hung up. Honestly, if you get a call like this, don’t bother talking - just put the phone down and ring your bank yourself!

Got a call from someone claiming to be from Lloyds Fraud Team, saying there'd been a dodgy attempt to set up a direct debit on my account. They said they'd need to block my cards straight away. Really felt like scare tactics. They tried to fish out details about other cards I have and my date of birth as well.

Someone called saying they were from Lloyds bank and already had parts of my card number - the start and the last four digits. Then they wanted the middle numbers, which made me suspicious straight away. I asked them for their full name and birthday instead. When I pushed back, they started threatening to block my card. Definitely a dodgy call.

I received a part text message with the phone number 0333 3034300, but didn't bother to open it since I wasn't sure who it was from. A few days back, I also received a call on my landline. Sadly, I didn’t jot down the number. It was one of those pre-recorded messages claiming to be from my bank's Fraud Department, stating they were holding back a request for a substantial payment due to its suspicious nature. It genuinely got me worried, especially as the message began with my name. I decided to visit my bank to verify, and they confirmed it was indeed a scam.

I got a call from someone who actually knew my name and my bank account number. They said they were from my bank and tried to get more details from me. I didn’t give anything away and would advise anyone to do the same. If you ever get a call like this, hang up and call your bank straight away using a different phone to make sure everything’s safe.

Received a call from someone purporting to be from my bank, and they had bits of my card details. They said there’d been some dodgy attempt to make a purchase. I checked with my actual bank, and they assured me it was all a scam.

I've been targeted by a credit card scammer. They even went as far as sending me a text that seemed really credible when I mentioned I'd be ringing my bank. Quite crafty!

Got a call earlier from some bloke called Matthew claiming to be from Co-op Bank’s fraud team, saying there might’ve been some dodgy activity. He didn’t really explain much though, probably because I didn’t have my card with me - I was actually in the car at the time. Anyway, he said he’ll call back tomorrow. Reading these posts has made me a bit wary, so I’m bracing myself for it now.

A guy calling himself "Matthew" claimed he was from MBNA, warning me about some dodgy activity on my card. I was totally fooled because he sounded like he had all my account info - no idea how he got it. Turns out, he went ahead with some fake transactions, but luckily my bank caught it and froze everything in time. Big lesson learned - don’t chat with suspicious callers, just hang up and ring your bank straight away, preferably from a different phone.

Got a call from a young guy, sounded southern UK, said he was from Tesco Bank. He mentioned some dodgy stuff on my card and rattled off the first 8 digits. When I questioned him, he said he’d freeze the card just for now and then hung up. Checked my card after and it’s totally fine.

I received a call today from someone claiming to be from my credit card bank, saying there was some unusual activity on my account. When I questioned whether they were genuine, the caller came up with a load of flimsy justifications before abruptly hanging up. Quite dodgy, if you ask me!

Got a dodgy call claiming to be from Sainsbury’s bank. The person read the first 8 numbers of my card like that was proof, then wanted me to say the rest. When I didn’t, they started threatening that my card would be cancelled or charged with big transactions. I later checked with my real bank, and they said it’s pretty easy to figure out the first part of a card number anyway.

i never pick up calls from numbers that show no caller id or dont have a name saved on my phone. usually if its something real or important, they'll leave a voicemail and then i can call them back. most of the time its just spam anyway.

Got a robo call that asked if I was there, then some bloke called David, supposedly from Carphone Warehouse, answered. He said who he was but before he could launch into the usual sales rubbish, I told him I wasn’t having any spam messing up my bank holiday Monday. He said sorry and said he’d ring me again on Saturday. I thought, what a nerve! So I told him there’s no chance, I’m blocking the number.
