Got a recorded voice saying it was from my bank, telling me to press 1 to either approve or cancel a £600 payment on my Visa card going overseas. Totally dodgy. Just about an hour before, I’d got the exact same call but from this number: 01786 919818. Definitely a scam attempt.

I do have Homeserve services but not Homesure, so I reckon they’re trying to sound genuine. Bought one of those call blocking devices but they keep switching numbers all the time. This morning I got a call from some place called Homesure saying our policy needed renewing. I didn’t know who they were, so I asked when we supposedly signed up. They said 2018, but I wasn’t convinced and said I’d check our bank records. After that, he said they'd send us a letter. When I spoke with my husband and checked the statements, it was clear a scam. Just a heads up, they’re tricky and now their number’s blocked with number protect.

Honestly, I wouldn’t trust anyone who rings you about insurance and asks for your payment info. If you need insurance, it’s much safer to look up the companies on your own. And if you already have a policy but get a sudden call saying they’ve got a ‘better deal’ for you, just hang up and ring your insurer directly to double check. Also, it’s better not to be rude to these callers, as that might just make them keep calling more often. I usually tell them I’m tight on money at the moment and probably can’t keep any cover I have. Hopefully that tip helps someone out.
