Got a text from “British Gas” but the way it was written seemed way too casual for them, I’ve had their messages before. But when you check the top of the letter, the address they're charging you for has nothing to do with you. Plus, the bill usually covers dates from nearly a year ago. If you're unsure, just use the official British Gas website and don’t ring the number on the letter. We’ve had two of these so far and have reported them to British Gas.

Got a text on my iPhone that looked like it was from British Gas and even had my proper name! I am with BG, pay via direct debit, and actually have a credit on my account right now. The message said "We're here to help with your overdue gas and electric bill. Just tap 'd.britishgas.co.uk/s/FhrKdU'". But that link’s fake, don’t click it. They also want you to ring a number which I reckon is a premium line. Pretty sure the link is broken on purpose to get you to ring and get stung.

I posted a comment here about an hour ago. I’ve seen quite a few folks down below saying (from October onwards) that this is a legit British Gas number if you look it up online. Just a heads up though, scammers have got clever and can now call you using what looks like a legit number on your caller ID, but they’re actually ringing from a completely different line, making it seem genuine. It’s odd how for months everyone mentioned this was British Gas in the comments, and now suddenly the calls are claiming to be from SSE. Definitely a con.

Got a call from British Gas debt collectors out of the blue. Pretty stressful when you weren’t expecting it. Seems they’re really pushing to get debts sorted early these days.

Got a call yesterday claiming I was responsible for my mum’s debt since my number was listed as a contact as she struggles with hearing. I explained everything to them and asked to have my number removed from the account. Despite that, they called me again today, really frustrating.

Got a call and text from 'British Gas' saying I owe money and that they’re sending debt collectors. I don’t even have a British Gas account. Total scam, be careful!

01904 897323 - landline from York area (01904 code). Got a call around 13:41 from 03332 029 804, claimed to be British Gas collections. Told them to stop phoning me again as I already said no, but he just said sorry and that he’d put a note on my account. Still annoying tho.
