Got a text out of the blue telling me to ring HSBC’s fraud department about two big charges. I called the official customer service number I always use, and they said everything was fine with my account. Pretty sure this is some kind of scam.

Got a text saying there was some weird stuff happening with my account and telling me to ring them straight away. Thought it was dodgy, so I phoned HSBC from a different number to check. They said there wasn’t anything strange going on and that the number that messaged me wasn’t linked to them at all. Definitely a scam.

Beware, this is a total con; I ended up losing quite a bit of cash. Really risky stuff.

Be careful, I just received a text saying it was from Barclays fraud team warning about multiple expensive purchases today. It told me to either ring a number or follow a link. I called Barclays customer service on their official credit card number since that’s the only one I have with them, but none of these transactions showed up on my account. Looks like yet another attempt at scamming people.
