I got a voicemail saying I should call this number, and next thing I knew, my Co-operative bank account was frozen.

I got a message saying my card was being looked into for some dodgy activity by the Cooperative bank. To check, I phoned the Coop number on the back of my card. They told me they had indeed tried to reach me before.

I was on the phone with my bank because my PayPal had been hacked and my card got messed up, when suddenly someone claiming to be from the Co-operative bank’s fraud team rang me.

Received a call from this number claiming to be the fraud team at the Cooperative Bank. They said there was suspicious activity on my debit card ending in xxxx and wanted me to verify stuff over the phone. I didn’t trust it and ended the call straight away, then rang my bank myself. Turns out, someone had tried to use my card without permission, but the bank caught it and blocked the transaction, probably after a few failed attempts. This call was definitely someone fishing for my PIN info, not the real bank. My card got cancelled and I’m waiting for a new one now. A couple of hours later, the same number phoned again with the identical recorded message, but I ignored it again. If you get a message like that supposedly from your bank’s fraud department, just hang up and call them directly. For any UK bank, you can dial 159 and tell them your bank’s name; it will connect you to their fraud team straight away.

Got some dodgy messages claiming to be from Co-op Bank about a payment failing. They even spelled 'Co-operative' incorrectly, which was a dead giveaway that it was a scam. Afterwards, I noticed two voicemails but left them alone. Then I got a couple of calls from the same number, which I ignored after realising the number looked fishy. No idea who they were or what they wanted, but it feels like one of those annoying scam attempts that just won’t give up.

This really seems dodgy to me. They claim to be calling from The Co-op Bank’s fraud department here in the UK, and somehow they’ve got your name and phone number. I’d just say hang up straight away.
