Got a scammer acting like they were from EDF. They only knew I had a direct debit set up, nothing else, and kept asking me to confirm my details. I rang EDF using the number on their official WhatsApp customer support and sorted everything out properly. After that, the same dodgy number phoned me three times, totally unaware I’d already spoken to someone legit. Then they called again the next day. Don’t hand over any info. When I told the caller I’d already spoken to EDF (it was the same voice too), she just hung up right away.

Loads of folks seem to reckon this is EDF calling, but if that were true, surely someone would've mentioned it by now? To me, it just felt like one of those silent ring calls where they just cut off. Not really harmful, I guess, but definitely frustrating and a waste of my time.

Just a quick update from the message I sent earlier today - I got an email that looked proper, supposedly from the contractor I was directed to, saying my appointment for next Monday was confirmed. The thing is, they got my name completely wrong. I was already a bit iffy about the phone call from this number (I double-checked with EDF who confirmed it isn’t theirs), so I searched the new email’s phone number here and, surprise surprise, loads of scam alerts showed up for that one too. Can’t wait for that Zoom chat on my landline Monday! :)

Be really careful. If you're not 100% sure, ask them to give you your account number first. Never share your bank info with them. Just hang up, wait like 10 minutes, then call the company directly yourself. Weirdly, I just got off the phone with them and sorted things out. Then like 15 mins later, they called back but no one picked up when I answered. Proper odd. I actually called a different number than this one. Marked this as risky coz other people said they're tryin to get your bank details.

I was on the phone with EDF energy when the call dropped suddenly. Then this bloke with a strange accent rang me back, asking for my bank details. There was loads of background noise, like a plane or something, so I asked if he was calling from the UK. He said no, he was in South Africa. I had to borrow a mate’s phone once to call EDF coz my phone was nearly dead, and somehow they ended up keeping his number linked to my account - even though I never gave them his number or said they could keep it. Then they rang him back asking for me! That’s not right at all, they shouldn’t save people’s numbers without asking. Feels really dodgy and like it breaches Data Protection rules.
