Someone rang saying they were from EDF and wanted my address to verify security. I told them to prove it by giving me my account number and the amount I last paid on my bill to confirm MY security. They just ended the call straight away.

Had a look on the site and this number isn’t on their list - plus, I’m on PAYG, so no reason for them to ring me. The woman seemed really thrown when I asked her to prove she wasn’t a scam by putting me through to their fraud team. Then she said meter readings, but the bloke I spoke to sounded just as sketchy when I asked where the call centre was. I'd tell everyone to check out Kitboga, Scammer Payback, Jim Browning or similar scambaiters on YouTube before handing over any info on the phone. Number’s been blocked now.

Got a call from someone saying they were from EDF. They had my name but started asking loads of questions, like my address and stuff. I just ended the call. I’m on pay as you go, so there's no bills or any reason for them to ring me.

EDF has a bunch of numbers posted on their site that they use to ring folks, and this number isn’t one of them. When they called me, they straight away asked for my name, which isn’t how proper companies do it. Normally they say something like "Is this *insert name*?" or "Am I talking to *insert name*?" instead.

If this was some sort of scam, it was pretty well done. The person on the phone asked for my wife by her first name and wouldn’t say what the call was for. If they’re scammers, they’re not very good - they didn’t even bother asking for my name.

He wanted more details before going on, so I told him I’d have to check. Then he mentioned something about SERP. I tried using different number lookup sites, and it’s usually some guy named “Adam” or a mystery woman. Plus, if you ask too many questions, they just cut the call.
