I spend quite a bit of time messing around with computers, so I’m no stranger to whitehat stuff, packet sniffing, or even hacking. I reckon these calls are probably coming out of Brighton. Whoever’s behind it seems to be masking their actual spot while dialing using local area codes. I did some digging around, looking at scam reports going back to December 2022, and managed to trace lots of different numbers they've been using, all pointing back to Brighton, though there might be connections further afield too.

This is the second time in just two days they’ve called me. I said hello a couple of times but no one answered. I blocked the number yesterday, so how did they manage to ring me again? It’s so frustrating!

They claimed it was about checking if my internet bill could be lowered and dropped a few numbers, asking if I’d received any alerts about it. When I answered yes (to set the record straight, I hadn't), they seemed really taken aback. Then they said the call dropped due to a line issue and just ended the chat. Totally a dodgy scam, no doubt.

I picked up, but there was just silence on the other end. Tried asking a couple times, still nothing, so I ended the call. Pretty sure it was one of those scam calls.

Total scam. My other half hung on the phone forever just to catch what they were up to - no doubt it’s a dodgy number. I’d just block and not answer if it rings again.

Some bloke with a South African accent called saying he could help cut my broadband costs. He asked me to verify my email and birthday, but I gave him fake details because I wasn’t convinced. After that, he said his supervisor was monitoring the call to make sure everything was legit. I didn’t buy it, so I just ended the call and blocked the number straight away.

They rang me a couple of times so I finally picked up. The person on the line claimed they could help lower my internet bills and wanted to do a review. I explained that my partner handles all that stuff and asked why she was asking me. Then she wanted to talk to him. I said he was at work. Next, she asked for his number. I said no. She then said, “Don’t you want to save money?” I replied that I never asked for their call, so it’s just a cold call. She sounded quite annoyed after that!

Definitely suspicious call vibes here. These folks were probing for my broadband info, clearly keen to peddle their own services. They’re quite the fibbers, attempting to sound more clued up than they actually are. A word to the wise: steer clear of entering your phone number on dodgy websites - that info will end up in the hands of numpties like them!

Got a call from someone claiming to be with Virgin WiFi, saying they can hook us up with really fast broadband for almost the same price we’re currently paying. He kept on about how we’re spending “way too much” on our existing plan and threw in that they could supply fibre as well. Thing is, Virgin WiFi isn’t even available in our area, and no fibre providers come near our place either. So I ended the call pretty quick - we’re already on the fastest deal we can get from any provider. Smells fishy to me, probably a scam!
