I just got a message that seemed identical to what others have reported, claiming to be from HSBC about an OTP for a so-called purchase at ASDA totalling £542.89. The funny thing is, I've never even had an account with them! I've simply disregarded it and got rid of the message.

Received a text pretending to be from HSBC about a one-time passcode for a transaction of £542.89 with Asda. The trouble is, I don’t have an HSBC account, nor do I intend to get one. This has got to be a scam!

Received a text claiming to be from HSBC regarding a one-time passcode for a transaction of £542.89 at Asda. The thing is, I don’t have any dealings with HSBC and have no intention of ever opening an account with them. Clearly, it’s a scam!

These con artists are incredibly skilled at what they do. I made the mistake of ringing them up, and the chap on the other end feigned being a bank staff member. He incessantly probed me for my account details and how much I'd got in there. That’s when I decided enough was enough and hung up. He urged me to ring back, but I've already forwarded the number to the authorities.

It seems I’ve received a rather dodgy message that looks like it’s trying to fish for my details, claiming to be from HSBC about a passcode for Airbnb and the like. Quite suspicious, if you ask me!
