I reached out to OVO using a proper number since I’m already a customer, and I can say for sure it’s genuinely OVO Energy. I didn’t pick up the call from the number in question, but I reckon they were likely checking if my appointment was still scheduled. Not sure if it’s linked to their sales team or if they might be cold calling to offer stuff, but I just wanted to make sure it’s legit. Even so, I wouldn’t answer unknown calls like that and would just ring a number I got straight from their official website.

Most likely some outside company hired by energy firms like OVO trying to push smart meters, getting paid for every sale. The moment I heard that Indian accent, I just hung up. There’s way too many scams coming from India nowadays. Their cops and officials never seem to do anything.

Never ever trust a cold call. Don’t agree to anything or sign up while on the phone with someone you haven’t contacted first. You cant really be sure if the caller is legit, even if the number checks out. If you want a ‘smart’ meter, do everything online through your account. Always ask what happens if the meter has a fault or the display battery dies. Don’t even consider getting one unless they give you a clear, written answer you’re happy with. Ovo’s one of the better energy providers but they’ve struggled with how fast they’ve grown over the past few years.

Got a call from someone saying they were with OVO about Smart meters. The person kept messing up my name and their English was all over the place. They’d rung me a few times before but I normally just ignore them, only picked up this once by mistake. Blocked the number straight after. Got a call from India, some dodgy scammer trying to snag my OVO account info. If it was really OVO, the way they asked for my details was just daft and totally unprofessional. Then, barely a minute later, I got another call from 0114 697 2114. Another Indian lady calling herself Helen Smith, so not buying it with her accent, claiming to be from UK MOBILE or something like that. She promised to cut my mobile bill in half but wanted all my personal and bank info. Watch out for these scammers!
