So I picked up the phone and this woman with an Indian accent started talking about my kitchen appliances insurance coming up for renewal. I told her I wasn’t signed up with them or any plan like that. Then she asked who I was covered by, which I thought was really none of her concern. When I said as much, she just hung up straight away. Pretty clear they’re just trying to scam people out of bank details.

I've been getting calls from someone pretending to sell appliances, like 5 or 6 times every day. It’s so annoying I’ve had to keep switching my phone off just to get some peace. I reckon for elderly folks, especially ones living by themselves, this kind of nonstop pestering could really mess with their head.

The caller actually knew my name and demanded my address and date of birth to “confirm” who I was. I refused to share any of that info. When I asked what the call was about, they said they couldn’t say anything until they’d double-checked my DOB and address.
