Got a call from a bloke claiming to be from Ellenor’s, which I’ve donated to before. He knew all about me - full name, what I’d donated, even where I live. Then he asked if I wanted to sign up again for the lottery and started asking for my bank info. I’ve told Surfers Against Sewage several times that they have no right to pass on my details and that sharing my info like that is against the law. A lady with a clear, posh British accent rang me and inquired if I was [my name], to which I confirmed with a 'yes' - it was clear she already knew who I was. She claimed to be representing an organisation that seemed to be abbreviated as FPS (I might have misremembered the letters), working on behalf of a charity from which I had previously purchased items from their online store, possibly ages ago. The conversation hinted that she was attempting to gather funds. As we chatted, she sought a few personal tidbits from me, mentioning that I had contributed a significant amount through donations in the past, which I knew to be utterly false. When she requested my email address, I politely declined, stating I wasn't comfortable disclosing that information over the phone. She remarked she didn't possess my email, so she would rely on the details she had and send information via post instead. Surprisingly, she didn't make any effort to confirm my postal address, and I didn’t offer it either. Just moments after ending the call, an uneasy feeling crept in, raising my suspicions considerably.
