I’d been ringing them and mostly used the callback option, but once I got connected straight away (which is quite rare). I made my enquiry and didn’t think twice about it. Had a really long chat with an Indian man who seemed genuine at first. He insisted I ring the main number, but that’s not doable since everything's done online now. I checked Barclays’ Facebook page to verify the number, but they couldn’t say for sure because their system was down. Got a call from a woman with an Indian accent saying she was from Barclays. She wanted to talk to my partner who wasn’t around. Not really convinced it was genuine, so I won’t be ringing back on the number she gave. If it really was Barclays, they seriously need to improve things - maybe have UK-based call centres or send official letters. Even better, keep the local branches open so we can just drop in and check instead of worrying about getting scammed all over again!

Received a letter telling me to go onto a site that had barclays [###] in the URL. Didn’t feel quite right, so I looked up the phone number they gave. It looked genuine at first glance. Still, the letter said if I didn’t log into the ‘secure’ site, they might have to shut my account down. Feels dodgy to me. Planning to pop into a branch and ask them about it.

The Know Your Customer team at Barclays seem to have really messed up how they handle calls. I got two voicemails from this number, and after a quick search online, I was convinced it was a scam. To be safe, I called Barclays back through the secure line on my banking app just to check if it was legit, and they put me through to the team. Be careful and always call your bank using a verified, secure number. Never trust a number left by some random caller.

As soon as you report, you’re helping get these scoundrels caught and punished!

After reading all the comments, I decided to dig a little deeper and turns out, it's definitely Barclays. I rang their Telephone Banking and they verified it for me. If you google "Barclays phone number checker" it leads you to a Barclays page where you can enter the number to see if it’s legit. I reckon you can also find this from their main login screen as well.

Got a call from a woman with an Indian accent saying she was from Barclays Business Banking. The number looked like it was Barclays but I’m guessing it was faked. I told her to send me a letter if they need to get in touch properly. I’m pretty sure I won’t be hearing back. If it really was Barclays, they should be using call centres here in the UK, not somewhere else.

Got a call from an Indian woman on 03300580087. She kept talking about some letter but wouldn’t actually say what it was about and seemed unsure when it was sent. Said she'd share more info if I answered some security questions. She tried to give me other numbers too. Asked for an email but apparently they don’t use emails! The call just happened about 10 mins ago. I’ve blocked the number now.

033000580087 - Got called twice too, first on my mobile then on my home phone. The woman had an Indian accent and said pretty much what everyone else mentioned. The second call on the landline was the one where she mentioned a letter, but I never got anything from Barclays. First call on my mobile was about a Direct Debit, apparently. I looked at my account and there was nothing unusual. I’m not replying, but just like others, the Barclays Phone Checker said the number was legit.

Someone claiming to be from Barclays corporate rang, gave a wrong date of birth on purpose and then wondered why it didnt come up as wrong. He said I had to answer two more questions but only asked one. In the end, he said I wouldnt be able to do any phone banking for 24 hours cos my details weren’t right.
