I received a call purporting to be from RAC Insurance, attempting to obtain my banking details for a supposed refund. After reaching out to RAC directly, it turns out this was indeed a scam. I highly advise against sharing any personal or financial information with anyone making similar requests. Stay vigilant!

I got an email and a text about an RAC refund, which made me a bit doubtful at first, but it turned out to be legit.

This number is indeed legitimate and belongs to the RAC. I received both an email and a letter informing me that I was eligible for a refund on my car insurance. The refund was credited to my credit card without delay. They don't request the entirety of your bank details; instead, they only need the last four digits of the card you used for the payment along with the type of card. All you need to do is verify if the information they have is accurate.

I’ve just got a letter from RaC regarding this number, requesting that we give them a ring to verify our banking information...

I recently came across numerous emails and a physical letter referencing this mobile number, all claiming to be from the RAC and asserting that I was eligible for a refund. The correspondence requested my bank details for “verification,” which immediately raised alarm bells for me-this clearly points to a scam. The RAC has never possessed my bank details; they only have my credit card information. So, why on earth wouldn't they simply process a refund to my card or send a cheque in the post? It's quite concerning how adept these scammers are becoming at tricking people. I’ve heard that the ‘GOCOMPARE’ system may have been breached, allowing these crooks to access email addresses and other personal information. Thankfully, at least card details should remain secure in their encrypted state.

I recently received some correspondence that seems to be from RAC Insurance, likely about a policy from 2018. They mentioned an email that was supposedly dispatched, but upon perusing my inbox, I found they’ve simply reiterated the same contact number for inquiring about a refund of £18.45. Furthermore, they mentioned something about tax being settled on that amount, which has left me a tad baffled. What’s going on here?

Got a message that read:

We need to have a chat about your old RAC Insurance policy. Kindly check the email we've dispatched and then give us a ring at 0330 018 3832.

I rang up RAC, and they verified that they hadn't sent any emails or messages my way.
