I got a message asking for an authorisation code then they rang me up. As soon as I told them my card wasn’t active yet, they just hung up.

If you get a surprise call from your bank, the safest thing to do is ring them back using the number on your card or bank statement. Don’t just trust any message or call claiming to be from your bank, but don’t just brush it off either. These scammers have way too much info about us these days, so it can be really tricky to tell if it's legit or just someone trying to scam you. If you get any dodgy calls, you can send a text reporting them to 7726. Also, it's a good idea to search for your bank’s proper contact numbers here. Honestly, it’s pretty alarming how clever they’ve gotten!

Got a call on a Sunday from someone claiming to be with the Nationwide fraud department. They pronounced my name completely wrong and as soon as they realised their mistake, the line went dead.

Beware of credit card fraudsters! I just had a dodgy call from someone who claimed to be from my credit card provider’s fraud department. They tried to trick me into connecting my card to an Apple Pay account. I hung up straight away! Just a heads up, no legitimate fraud team will ever request a verification code through a text. Stay vigilant!

SCAM - They pretended to be from my bank and sounded so legit. They got me to cancel my credit card, saying it was urgent. Then said it was connected straight away to Apple Pay, so they could’ve used the new one I’d just requested. Thankfully, I got suspicious right after the call (feel so stupid now!!) and rang my real card provider to sort out another replacement.

Got a call from someone pretending they were from my credit card company, told me a transaction was blocked. They even knew the last digits of my card, the bank I use, and my name, which was a bit unnerving. They claimed the hold was because the purchase happened outside of my usual area. They asked if I often used my card online, which was a bit dodgy - a legit rep wouldn’t need to ask that. I ended the call and rang up the actual card company to check, and sure enough, it was a scam.

Got a call from someone saying they were from the credit card fraud team. They wanted me to confirm my security questions and then gave me a 6-digit code, claiming it was needed to cancel my card. Total scam, don’t fall for it.

I got a call from someone saying they were from the fraud team at crypto.com. They couldn't give me the anti-phishing code when I asked, so I just ended the call.
