Just got a call from this number saying I owe £1950 to the TV licence office, but it sounds dodgy to me. They kept insisting it was a bill I hadn't paid. Anyone else had this?

I got a call from someone pretending to be my mobile network, and they had all my personal info - name, address, the type of contract I’m on, and even all the numbers linked to my account, not just the one they called. They said I was eligible for an upgrade (which is true) and offered a sweet deal on a new phone and plan. I went along with it, thinking it was legit. Then they said they’d send me a code to verify my identity, and without thinking, I read it back to them. Next thing I know, they’d changed my passwords and personal details, placed orders for three iPhones with contracts costing £2000 all charged to me (pay later, of course). One phone was even being delivered to my home, which would’ve looked totally normal. Thankfully, right after the call, I spotted what had happened and phoned my provider straight away to stop all the orders.

Thought it was the hospital ringing me, so I called back straight away, only to get the TV licence people on the line. Felt proper daft! All that fuss just because of a new payment card. Really annoying. My phone’s like my lifeline and honestly, my TV licence shouldn't matter as much, especially since I've already paid up until 2017. Yet they still wanna chase me for 2018. Just seems like they’re all about the money, nothing else. Pure greed if you ask me.

Called this 0300 number back and got stung 68p plus VAT for just 6 minutes. Honestly, 0300 numbers should be free just like 0800 ones! TV Licensing are fully aware of this but still rake in loads from people ringing. Proper rip-off.
