The number appears to be genuine, yet it's worth noting that fraudsters have the capacity to impersonate authentic figures. This could either be a crafty swindler or someone claiming to be from HMRC - both are quite distinct forms of deceitful schemes.

Hello there,

Just a quick follow-up regarding the number I mentioned previously. It turns out this is indeed a legitimate contact for HMRC, tasked with retrieving overdue payments - in my instance, it was due to a mistake on their part.

It goes without saying, refrain from sharing any payment information over the phone. Instead, consult with your tax advisor or look into your circumstances further. Ignoring it isn’t wise, as it could lead to accruing interest fees.

Hello there, I recently received a rather alarming phone call that claimed to be from HMRC. They left a message mentioning my tax reference number and stated that I supposedly owed some money due to an underpayment on my taxes. Strangely, they never requested any detailed information about my accounts. The whole thing sounded quite plausible, and the caller had a thick Scottish accent that added to the authenticity of it all.

Got a phone call from someone claiming to be from HMRC, and they actually mentioned my real UTR number, which I don’t think HMRC would normally do. Honestly, it was pretty unsettling that they knew that info. I’m guessing they’re trying to scam you for your bank info, so watch out!

Got a call supposedly from HMRC telling me to ring back within a day. Best not to answer or return the call, it’s dodgy.
