I just got this ridiculous call from a recorded American bloke pretending to be from HMRC, telling me I was involved in some tax scam and if I didn’t hit button 1 I’d get arrested! Honestly, it made me chuckle so much, haven’t laughed like that in ages! Sure, it’s probably risky, but are scammers really this daft nowadays?

Got a call from some dodgy bloke with a robotic voice that sounded worse than one of those old Amiga speech gadgets from decades back. They tried to say I’m involved in tax fraud or something daft like that and kept pushing me to press 1. Honestly, I’m not falling for that rubbish - no way am I confirming my number like that. If you ever get one of these calls, just don’t press any buttons and let it drop off on its own after a bit. Safe and simple.

The caller insisted I press 1 to speak with the officer handling my case, and warned me that if I were to disconnect, a warrant for my arrest would be issued posthaste. Naturally, I decided to hang up, now left in suspense regarding any impending arrest! Quite the audacious scam, isn't it?

Indeed, it’s been ages since that alert back on the 28th of February 2019. I received a rather alarming call featuring a thick American accent, supposedly from some HRMC fraud division. They claimed I was embroiled in a tax fraud case and insisted that if I didn’t press 1 for more info, they’d issue a warrant for my arrest. It's ridiculous, really! Fraudulent telephone call on 28th February 2019. Claiming to be from HMRC regarding some supposed debt. When I pressed '1', I ended up chatting with a woman who appeared to be in India, and shortly after, the call seemed to shift overseas. She requested my full name, which raised my suspicions even further. I inquired about their identity to verify if they were genuinely HMRC, and she promptly hung up on me. The number that rang was 03002003525.

Received a call earlier today around noon from someone claiming to be from the fraud investigation division of HMRC. They stated that I was under investigation. The caller then requested that I verify both my full name and the last four digits of my National Insurance number. When I inquired about the reason for the call, he evaded the question. He went on to claim that I was being probed regarding tax matters from 2015 to 2018, alleging that I owed a sum of £511.69. Then, in a rather dramatic fashion, he informed me that he was obligated to mention that this could escalate to court action and that the authorities might soon be arriving at my residence. He presented me with two choices: either take the matter to court or pay the entire balance immediately. I told him to shove off, as I know from experience that HMRC usually sends a formal letter, which is likely to arrive in April. To this, he flatly responded, ‘Alright, sir, I will initiate court proceedings, and you can expect the police at your door today.’ I simply chuckled and ended the call. The caller had a South Asian accent. - identification: purportedly from HMRC Fraud division.
