I've just had a similar experience. I didn’t hit 1 like they wanted; instead, I sat through that terrifying spiel they had about my imminent arrest and then decided to do a bit of digging online. Turns out the caller was masquerading as HMRC. What a dodgy racket!

This is definitely a scam! They’re masquerading as HMRC… I hit 1 to engage, and then they cut the line on me (8th April 2019) - the number was 0300 200 7763.

I had a remarkably similar experience! I picked up the phone and hit the '1' button, only for the call to cut off right after. Quite peculiar, wasn’t it?
