I received one of those automated calls the other day, supposedly from HMRC, asserting that I was embroiled in a tax fraud investigation. They instructed me to press 1, threatening that doing so would lead to a warrant for my arrest. Out of sheer curiosity, I pressed 1, and a woman with a West Indian accent picked up. When I inquired about her location, she promptly hung up on me. It baffles me that there’s no category for “scammer” in the caller type options!

I just received a call on my mobile from a number claiming something about a warrant out for my arrest, suggesting I might be taken in soon. The number was 0300 200 6922. Quite concerning!
