I got a call claiming I was involved in some tax fraud and needed to press 1 to talk to a HRMC officer, or else risk being arrested. I pressed one, and the person on the other end, who sounded foreign, asked for my name, phone number, and birthday. I told them I wasn’t happy sharing personal info with strangers who had called me out of the blue and couldn’t even explain things properly. Then they just hung up. The number was 03002006669.
