Every time I pick up, the line just disconnects straight away. I’m really concerned that now my number's been 'verified', I’ll be inundated with calls.

This seems to be a dodgy number masquerading as the tax office, trying to pull a fast one. Definitely not worth engaging with!

I received a call from this lot purporting to be from HMRC, alleging that there was some sort of tax fraud linked to my name. They urged me to press 1, and in a moment of foolishness, I did just that. The instant I was connected and realised it was all a scam, I hung up without a second thought. It was patently obvious it was a con; they never mentioned my name, nor had I shared it with them, so how on earth could they claim there was fraud associated with me?

I received a rather dubious phone call purporting to be from HMRC, alleging there was tax fraud linked to my name and urging me to press 1. I hung up straight away. It was glaringly apparent that it was a scam; they didn’t even mention my name, and I certainly hadn’t shared it. How could they possibly know anything about any supposed fraud associated with me?
