HMRC Director? More like fraudsters trying to pull a fast one. Complete scam!

It's a total con from HMRC. Just don't bother with it, rubbish all of it.

I got a call from someone saying to press 1, then they put me through to an 0800 number. They said they were from HMRC about tax fraud or something. A woman who said her name was Stella Foster told me there was a case against me, giving me a reference number and all that. I rang the actual tax office afterwards and they confirmed it was a total scam.

At first I thought the call was legit since the number 0800 788 887 matched the HMRC tax evasion hotline I found online. That’s what really made me hesitate. But the woman never said her name straight away, and when I asked at the end, she said she was Stella Foster. Then, some bloke came on and said he was Nate Shaw. It all felt a bit off after that.

So on 22/4/19 I spent about 25 mins on the phone with someone trying to convince me that my tax accountant messed up my filings. It was a proper struggle to see through it, but after checking these reports I realised it was a scam. When I tried to call them back, they wouldn’t pick up and got really hostile and started threatening me when I questioned them. Proper dodgy!

I got a automated call first, then a bloke came on saying he was a police officer with some badge number and name I can’t recall. He claimed I owed about £1200 and said I had to pay £600 straight away over the phone because there was a warrant for my arrest. He also mentioned a police officer would be visiting with a court date and that I’d need a solicitor. Then, he suddenly dropped the payment to £350. When I told him I had to check with my accountant, he just ended the call. Definitely an HMRC scam call.

I hit 1 just to see what would happen, then a lady with a clear Asian accent said, "Thanks for reaching HMRC and Customs." Funny enough, she didn’t mention that Customs is actually the 'C' in HMRC! She went on with, "We gotta have a word with you today." I told her straight up, "I didn’t ring you, love, your bot called me." She replied, "Just end the call and we’ll drop this whole thing." Definitely warn older or more vulnerable family/friends about this - best to just ignore or politely tell them to get lost.

I got a robocall with a recorded voice saying I had to press one or I’d be arrested. I just ended the call straight away. It’s horrible these scams are going around - I’m not naive but there are lots of older folks who could easily be tricked by this rubbish.

Someone rang me saying they were from HMRC and told me I'd done something dodgy with my taxes. They kept saying to hit 1 if I hadn't or they'd come after me. Sounded like a proper scam to me.

Got a weird call from some woman saying I owe a bunch of back taxes from past years. When I asked her for details, she suddenly got really unclear and her English was hard to understand. Then the line just dropped on me. Strange experience.

I got a call from someone pretending to be the HMRC fraud team, total scam. I've already passed the number along to the real HMRC so they can look into it.

Absolutely gross! They said I'd be nicked in half an hour and needed £2600 in cash to sort it out. Then it hit me - it was totally a scam. When I pressed for her name, she gave me “Stella Foster,” but ended up saying “Foxtrot Oscar” which, well, basically means F off. Honestly, what a load of rubbish.

This was another dodgy call. For my elderly folks, I've done something similar - they only pick up if they know the number or the voice on the line sounds familiar. Also put an answerphone on nonstop so they can screen calls without stress. They never bother calling anyone back. It’s horrible to think how often these scammers target vulnerable people, probably all day long. Truly shocking.

Don't engage with them. They say you've been caught evading taxes and want a hefty sum paid straight away. They back up their bluff with a crime ref, a police hotline, and some arrest warrant details. It all sounded pretty legit at first, but when I said I'd get a solicitor involved, they turned nasty and started threatening me.

I’ve just had two calls from 03002003789 in less than an hour on my phone. I picked up the first one and there was this automated message claiming to be from HMRC, saying I was involved in tax fraud and threatening a warrant unless I responded. Didn’t bother with the second call and I’m planning to block the number, but I reckon they probably have loads of different numbers to ring from. Honestly, my tip is just don’t pick up at all.

Right after I had a chat with HMRC, about ten minutes later this automated call came through from 03002003789 saying I was involved in some fraud and if I pressed a button I could speak to someone in their fraud department. I hung up straightaway and looked it up. Seems like a total scam to me. Still, I’m wondering if it’s just a weird coincidence, or if my HMRC call got compromised somehow?
