Hard to tell who rings from this, but the tax office never uses fake numbers or chat with that robotic voice. They always ring from their actual number when they call.

Got a call from someone saying if I didn't sort out my supposed tax debts right away, HMRC would send the police round to arrest me. Seemed like a proper scam to me - they were really pushy and threatening about tax fraud stuff. I didn’t fall for it but it’s scary how convincing they sounded. Definitely a dodgy scheme trying to scare people into handing over money.

So I got a call from someone claiming to be from hmrc saying someone was using my name fraudulently. They asked for my name, and I told them they should already have it since they called me. Then the woman gave my full name and asked for my postcode, which I stupidly gave her. Right after that, the phone just went dead. Tried ringing back but no answer, and there was no missed call from that number either.

I hit 1 and got through to a person saying they were from the HMRC fraud team. They wanted my address to verify I was legit. When I told them they were supposed to know who I was without me saying, they swore at me and ended the call. Got the whole thing recorded on my phone. - caller ID: 0300 200 3190
