Watch out, this so-called HMRC caller was threatening my mum with arrest and she got really upset on the phone. I grabbed the handset and began shouting back, and the guy on the other end, who sounded like he was from somewhere in Asia, started cursing too! This happens all the time, it’s just a nasty scam. I got a call from this strange number, 0300 200 1424, telling me I hadn’t paid taxes for 2016-2017 and if I didn’t press 1, I’d be arrested soon. I pressed 1 out of curiosity and ended up speaking to a man with an Indian accent demanding £491 or else I’d be arrested. I asked him to send me all the details and proof about the unpaid taxes through the post, and after that, he just hung up. When I tried calling back, the number was gone. Total scam alert!
