Got a call from someone pretending to be HMRC, tried to trick me with some scam. I told them I wasn’t buying it and they just hung up on me. They actually knew my name, which is scary. People who are more vulnerable really need to be warned about this and told to just hang up and ring HMRC themselves if they’re worried!

Watch out for those 0300 calls, it's usually a scam. Just hang up straight away and dont bother with it. The tax office (HMRC) never ring you up, they always send letters first, so always double check with official sources. Loads of scammers ringing about trying to steal your cash. If it’s an automated message, just ignore it, and if it’s a person, be firm and tell them to buzz off.

A lot of scams out there try to trick you by saying you have some kind of tax refund and then ask for your card details or bank info. If you’re not sure who’s on the other end, it’s best not to get involved or give them anything. Always check properly before you share anything personal.

Just a heads up, HMRC would never get in touch via WhatsApp or similar apps regarding tax refunds. If you get any messages on WhatsApp claiming to be from HMRC, it's definitely a con. Stay careful folks!

got a call from someone saying they were from hmrc, said i was about to get arrested for some tax problems. they told me to pay up right then and there on the phone or else they'd come after me. it's obvious now that hmrc would never ring you like that or threaten arrest. total scam!
