Without a doubt, this is The Student Loan Company - Student Finance. I’ve had to sort stuff with them lately about payments from a relative, some were overpaid and some under, so it’s definitely legit, not a scam. They’re really strict about security info, reference numbers and what you can say, so they’ll ask quite detailed questions. I wouldnt trust this number at all! It says its the Student Loans Company but I cleared my loan like 20 years back. I reckon the good reviews might actually be from the scammers themselves. Be careful and dont share any info you arent happy with!

Student Loans Company calling. Felt pretty legit cause 1) they knew exactly how much extra I’d paid on my loan, down to the penny, which matched the ‘Your Balance’ shown on the official government site - www.manage-student-loan-balance.service.gov.uk 2) they also knew I’d changed my address and that previous letters had been sent back to sender. That info was also on the site with a reminder for me to update my details.

Somebody called saying they was from a Student Loan firm wanting to chat with me. Why would they? I’m 75 years old! Never took out a student loan in my life. But I hung up when they asked for my National Insurance Number. I told him if he could give me the first two letters, I'd consider giving the rest. This number is definately from the student loan people. Whatever part of their team rings me, this is the main company number that shows on my phone. Every time I've phoned them back, they've been able to verify the exact date and time they called, and it matches what I got.

Student Loans Company did ring me up and it was a genuine call. I ended up getting my refund no problem, all sorted in about a week after they called. Like others have said, I was a bit iffy because they just phoned out of nowhere, and I didn’t even know I was owed money. They also couldn’t say why they were calling until I did their security questions first.
