I got an email from someone named S Harrison at HMRC, claiming that we have an outstanding balance with them.

I’ve been inundated with emails threatening me over supposed debts to HMRC, yet I don’t owe a penny! It’s quite infuriating, to say the least.

It’s a relief to see these comments here. We got the exact same email threatening enforcement if we didn’t pay up. The phrase that really made me suspicious was something like 'since you’re one of the few who haven’t paid, we're prioritising your case' - language that just didn’t sound right or professional. Plus, the grammar was off, like a full stop where it should have been a comma after 'paid'. Didn’t even bother opening the attachment, just deleted it straight away!

This definitely isn’t HMRC, so I’d just ignore the call entirely.

i got an email that looked quite like the one mentioned above. im just gonna ignore it cos it sounds like a scam to me. if i owed anything to hmrc, i’m sure the official notice would come through a brown envelope, just like they always do. no way it would be a random email full of mistakes. deleting it straight away!

Yesterday, I got an email like that too. I checked the official HMRC website and it clearly says they wouldn’t ask for money like that at all. The message I got even mentioned sending a “sherrff” round to sort things out - which I found hilarious since I didn’t think we had those here! I’ve done what the HMRC site advised and passed the email over to their fraud team so they can investigate it.

Watch out for these calls - I wouldn’t recommend opening any attachments, pretty sure they're packed with a virus.

i got this letter and it’s clearly a scam. they say “pay us now or we’ll take enforcement action,” but i never owed anything to begin with. they mentioned they’d tried to reach me before about payment, but that’s just not true. included there’s some kind of “statement of liability” that shows what they say i owe. it’s from “debt management g mcleanhmredmb 512 bx5ab” or something like that. don’t fall for it, i’m gonna ignore it.

Got an email claiming to be from HMRC asking for money, but when I pressed on the sender info, it showed a US IP address - definitely a scam. Also, if you check the official HMRC website, they clearly state they never request payments or personal info via email, it's always by post. If you're unsure, just ring your local tax office using the number from the official site or your tax documents. They’re really trying to crack down on these fraudsters.

Got this email asking me to pay £6,000, both the email address and phone number seemed dodgy.

I've been receiving emails claiming that I have an outstanding debt of £5882, which is utterly untrue. They’re even going as far as to threaten me with bailiff action! It's all rather distressing given that I don't owe a penny.

Just got an email asking me to pay £6,000, supposedly from my home, but I have no idea what this is about or owe anything. I’ve seen something like this before. Can anyone tell me who or what this number is linked to? Cheers.

I've been receiving demands for payment from them, threatening to involve bailiffs if I don’t settle up soon. Quite the ordeal, really!
