This number’s definitely real, it’s not some scam or anything. I actually got it from the National Insurance helpline after I called them. But funny enough, when I tried to call it back myself, my phone said the number wasn’t valid. Really weird!

I got a letter supposedly from HM Revenue & Customs and it had this phone number on it to call back. When I rang, I couldn’t understand the voicemail at all and ended up leaving my personal info without thinking. Can you believe that HMRC would put a fraudster’s number on their official letter? It’s crazy that they’re making it so easy for scammers!

So, get this, I got this number off a bloke who said he worked for HMRC. I first rang the official HMRC line at 0300 200 0629, and the guy told me to call 0300 056 0629 if I wanted to talk to the Subject Access Request team. He just said his name was Michael - no surname or anything, which is a bit dodgy these days when no one takes responsibility. I’ve been trying to call that number (this was on 17 Feb 2020) but it always goes to some recorded message saying ‘Sorry, your call couldn’t be connected, please try later.’ I’ve called tons of times now and I keep getting charged, but no luck getting through. Does anyone know who I can complain to about this whole HMRC situation?
