I have been receiving numerous persistent calls, both on my phone and on a relative's phone nearby. I decided to answer one of the calls today out of curiosity. It turned out to be a woman from India, or somewhere in that vicinity, who claimed that my phone line was going to be disconnected. Her forceful and authoritative manner sounded rather threatening. After this encounter, the calls continued, although they were spaced out over long intervals. The fact that they persist despite knowing that I am not interested in engaging with them is somewhat worrisome. What could possibly be their motivation for doing this?

This lady claimed she was with some sort of TPS call blocking service. When I asked her where she was calling from, she said London - quite sure that was a fib. I told her to quit ringing me as I’ve lost track of how many times that blasted number has buzzed my phone. It’s usually around teatime too. Surely the TPS or whatever regulatory body oversees these scammy cold callers, who are clearly up to no good, should step in and do something. With so many people recording these calls, you’d think there’d be enough proof to take them to court by now.

Got a call from a lady claiming to be from TPS about stopping annoying calls - sounded quite Asian. When I told her she was actually the nuisance since she’d rung me thrice today, she just hung up. On my BT landline, you can actually block these numbers yourself: just hang up, pick up again for the dial tone, then dial 1572. An automated voice will ask if you want to add the caller to your block list - I’ve done that now with her number.
